Embellishments Only

Pool Party
Designed by Amy Perkins

While Randi is enjoying the snow... I thought I would warm you up with a summer layout!!

I tried something I've never done before with this layout... I only used embellishments.  There is no pattern paper and only white cardstock!!  This double layout came together very quickly to my surprise.  I arranged the pictures in a "scattered" way and then added embellishments... and a lot of them!

I often seem to have leftover embellishments from kits, and I'm left wonder how I can use them up.  Keeping a neutral background was the solution!  There are embellishments that I am challenged when using, like die cut frames... but it really seemed to work this time.  I skipped the journaling and added several titles instead.

Try something new and use up those embellishments you have to create a layout that is unique and different.

Techniques used:
  • Photo split between layouts
  • Multiple photos "scattered" on layout
  • Minimum cropping
  • Layering rub-ons

Snow Days

Snow Day
Designed by Randi Fien

I am headed off to the snow today for a much needed Girls Weekend!!! I thought I would post the latest snow layout to celebrate!

Techniques Used:
  • Boarder Punches
  • Title- Cricut Cartridge- Winter Wonderland
  • Jute tied bow around paper
  • Embellished with half pearls and bling
This is new paper from Echo Park. I fell in love with the bold colors of this paper and just knew it would compliment the pink snow kissed cheeks on my little boys faces! I kept my photos in 4x6 format and used minimal embellishments to not distract from the busy pattern of the paper.  I used Bazzil Kraft rather than white cardstock to ground the page..and that way I could use the twine one of my fall favorite carryovers!

Thanks for checking! Hope you stay warm and dry this weekend and see ya'll next week!

Add a pop of color...

Do you have busy paper that you LOVE but are challenged to use??? Do you struggle with paper that isn't the same "theme" as your photos??? Try adding a pop of color. Maybe try one that isn't expected.

Here Amy created a fun and eye popping hunting layout by adding red to an already busy blue-yellow and grey color palete.  She kept her photos black and white and used a simple layout. The yellow mat behind her photos draw your attention to the pictures. The red title and bullseye really give this layout the WOW factor!

Try to keep these tips in mind next time you are kitting those photos! Other fun colors we like to add a punch of are Orange, Turquoise and Black!

February Design Team - Amy Perkins

Design Team Creations: Amy's Beauty

Amy chose a bright yellow background for her layout which makes it cheery and fun! I love how all her elements tie the page together! Her circle title block and the punched border! So cute!

Here she layered border strips and ripped her patterned paper! I love this technique it is super easy and adds tons of dimension to her layout!

How clever is she with the tulle?? She added even more dimension  by scrunching the tulle behind her punched border. It reminds me of a lace petticoat!!!
So how did she do with her February kit and challenges?? Let her know how she inspired you to use tulle? We will have it out on our resource table at our February 19th crop! Show us how you use it and we may post it on our blog!!!

February Design Team - Randi Fien

February Design Team: Randi's pretties :)

This kit was sooo much fun to buy and put together! Amy and I were like two crazy scrappers in the scrapbook store! It is always a challenge for me to use the pink stuff...with 3 boys I usually pass up two thirds of the scrapstore. So I was super excited to use this kit!

This is a layout of my "pretty girl" Tulie Belle! My husband and I joke that our girls have four legs and a tail!

Tulle was our kit challenge this month. I braided it here with some ribbon and fiber.

And here I bunched it up and added a little bling here and there. This took a LOT of glue dots to get it in place. I usually like things to look clean and in its place so this was a bit of a challenge for me.
A little more bling and some Thickers and my girlie layout is complete!
Thank you and check back tomorrow for Amy's beauty!

It's time to purge...and WIN!!!

It's time to purge...
A few helpful tips on what to purge!

Are you having trouble purging?  Is your stash growing?  Wondering which supplies to keep and which ones to FINALLY let go of?  Not to worry... here are some helpful tips on what to purge!

What to purge:
  • Supplies you find at the bottom of your stash and have had for over a year.  (because you know you would rather use the new supplies your bought just the other day!)
  • Duplicate tools because you have either upgraded or another tool can do the same job.  (e.g. if you have a big bite, you can purge hole punches and other eyelet setting tools)
  • Embellishments and stickers you have partially used and were hoping to use the remaining ones one day... and a year has passed and you still have not used them.
  • Excessive amounts of one thing.  (e.g. If you purchased a bolt of ribbon with 10 yard on the bolt, cut off 1 - 3 yards and purge the rest.  Same goes for those packs of labels where you get 25 or more in a pack.  Keep 1 of each style and purge the rest.)
  • Totes and other organization items you no longer use.  Over time our scrapbook organizational needs change when we discover new products and tools.  So purge those organizational items that are just taking up valuable space.
  • Supplies you bought and just don't seem to use in your layouts.  This could be stamps, inks, pens, or tools.  If you don't use them... purge them and make room for new things you would use.
  • It's time to purge your growing stack of cardstock and pattern paper.  If you have colors or texture of cardstock you keep passing on... it's time to purge them.  If you have pattern paper you are tired of seeing and it doesn't inspire you... purge them too!
We challenge you to do a bit of purging yourself.  Post a comment letting us know what you decided to purge and you will be entered into a random drawing to win a free consignor registration for March 12.  Contest ends February 12th.

Register now to become a consignor at the SCRAPBOOK SALE on March 12.  It's fun and easy.

Design Team Creations: Day 3

Taraleigh's pretties:

As the saying goes, "a picture says a thousand words" and Taraleigh's simple-style allows her pictures to have a strong voice! I love how elegant her pages are with a single picture and heartfelt journaling! Her color choices in this family layout are stunning! She really made the photo color pop by adding just enough orange embellishments.
blog
How about those embellishments! Look how she layered orange tulle on top of her hearts and a little finishing touches with a white pen and voila!
I LOVE how she outlined her Thickers! Will be trying that trick out!
Here is another fun way to use tulle!

She makes it look so easy, huh? :)

AND lucky us! She made a 3rd inspiring layout for us to drool over!

I am impressed that Taraleigh was able to use the same paper on two layouts and achieve such COMPLETELY different looks! The bingo number paper is bright and cheery on the YUM page and here on this beautiful birth announcement page it is subdued and classic!
Thank you Taraleigh! Be sure to check out Taraleigh's blog for more of her amazing creations and see what inspires her! Leave her a comment here and let us all know what you love about her February Creations!!

Design Team Creations: Day 2

Marcie's playground

Colorful, fun and completely energized is what I feel when I see Marcie's playful layouts! She doesn't shy away from the vibrant colors but embraces them and it WORKS! I love to see this bright layout...a welcome change from the dreary winter we are experiencing!

There are so many things I truly LOVE about this layout. The angled pictures really draw me to look at the page and have my eyes travel over all the details! All the buttons give the page an eclectic touch and did you see the felt heart border strip?? WAY CUTE!
As we mentioned before Tulle was the challenge product of the month. Look at how clever Marcie was to paint her heart chipboard a sunny yellow and tie it with a tulle bow! Using all three colors at once really made it stand out! Again...love it! :)
Who wouldn't want to receive this fancy little card in the mail? The bird in the cage die-cut image and the gingham ribbon have me thinking Tea Party anyone??? The softer color choices on this card are calming and have me longing for spring! I also love the distressed edges Marcie used it really gives her layout and card a finished detailed element!
Thank You Marcie for sharing your creativity with us! Can't get enough of Marcie's fancies??? Check out her blog! Leave a comment here and let Marcie know what you love best about her scrappy style!
Don't forget to come back tomorrow and see what Taraleigh has to wow us!

Scrap Again Design Team Creations: Day 1

Mandie's lovelies:

We have so much to share with you this month we are going to feature a new DT member each day this week! Today we are showing off Mandie's fun and energetic style!

I love her pops of color on a monochromatic layout! My absolute favorite is her punched butterflies! What a clever way to incorporate more patterned paper.

Have you ever struggled with using Bakers Twine?? Check out how Mandie tied it around her photo!

Here are TWO cards you are going to want to make for your special Valentines!

I love the dimension she added to these cards with the accordion fold banner strip and the pop dots under the O and L....can we say "O"Lala!!!

YUMMY!

This month we challenged our DT to use tulle. I love how she swirled it and topped it with buttons to look just like the frosting on the cupcakes! Want to know where she got that amazing die cut??? She cut it out from the back side of the pink patterned paper! Way to use up those scraps, Mandie!

Thank you for another month of inspiring creations! Check out Mandie's blog to get of her amazing style and check back in with us tomorrow to see Marcie's layouts.

Let Mandie know what you liked best about her
